So today is saturday. My weigh in day. I forgot to do this last week but that's okay 'cause I didn't do measurements last week. So here are the results:
Weight: -7.8lbs
Waist: -8 cm
Thighs: -1cm (well average, one thigh is way larger than the other apparently... by like 8 cm!! Who knew?
Arms: -2cm
Bust: +2 (confusing yes, complaining, no. ha ha :)
I'm happy, this is what I wanted to do, see a visual of how it was changing. I have this mental thing where I always look the same in the mirror to myself, I don't actually know what I look like until I look at a picture, weird eh? I don't understand it but...
So of all the places to put cm's on I'm glad it was my bust, I mean, everyone wants a larger bust right? Ha ha ha! I even made sure I was wearing the same bra and everything, running around looking for the exact one like a moron ha ha! Anyway, hormonal changes and stuff can change those too so I'm not worried at all.
Anyway, today on the schedule I'm hangin' out with my friend Robynn so I shall bid you adieu!

Just keep swimming...
So today, I found my exercise... I'm going swimming. My friend Norma whom I sing with on my church worship team just turned 50 and she's training for a triathalon, TALK about inspirational. So tonight, we're planning on going together, not to train for a triathalon, just swimming :) I don't know how long we'll be there, or how many passes I'll do but... I always liked swimming when we used to have a pool. Just not the whole "bathing suit" thing... So... I'm facing a fear tonight as well as getting some exercise. Actually I should leave now so I will blog about if after as well.
So apparently I didn't post my thing 'cause I ran out of here in a rush and now I'm back from swimming :). Swimming was fun, however there were two douche bags in my lane with me who kept running into me. Like, pay attention to where you're going or move to a faster lane! Anyway, it was relaxing when they left. I was super uncomfortable when I got there 'cause there were loads of "swimmers" so... that sucked. I did it though, and I'm alive. Next week we're going to a different pool though 'cause there were so many people.

Oh, and women's change rooms, I have NEVER seen so many boobies in all my life. I had forgotten that the women there have no shame whatsoever, trapsing around nude. Whereas I'm uncomfortable strolling around in a bathing suit that shows too much skin. Seriously people, have some decency. If not for yourself, but for the people around you. One woman was just having a conversation in the nude. Really? Anyway, I'm not like that, I tucked myself securely in a change room, stripped down uncomfortably and put on my bathing suit. Anyway, it's definitely something I would do by myself later on, swimming that is, not galavanting around in the buff. Once I find a place I personally like.
There are two things I don't like about swimming though. The smell... I hate the combination of clorine and urine. DISGUSTING. I've showered twice since I went swimming an hour ago and still I can smell it. It must be STUCK to my nose hairs. DELISH! Second, however, this is a thing I don't like, but I do like at the same time. I know, you're saying, how can you hate something and like something at the same time. You'll get it when I say it though. So just say it already right? Ha ha! Well, I hate that I can already feel that I'm going to be walking around like Frankenstein tomorrow because of working the muscles I don't normally use. I hate this 'cause it's sore, but I love it because I'm working stuff out :) Anyway, I'm gonna hit the hay. Hopefully all this swimming took some of my energy and I'll be able to fall asleep. nighty night!

Tootsie Roll
So I was SO CLOSE to working out today. That sounds awful I know, but my mother doesn't encourage me at all and when she's home I find it hard to walk past her downstairs to work out. 'cause when I come back up an hour later something always comes out of her mouth like "You're not even sweaty." Or "Maybe you should do another hour." Now I know I'm sensitive but this ALWAYS upsets me, and it's always been how my mother talks to me.
So I've come up with a plan, my mom works 10 - 6 this month so I've decided to come home from work, work out for an hour and a half then head back up to my room and change so she doesn't even know I've worked out. However, that happened last week, I worked out REALLY hard before she came home, came upstairs and changed, then saw her later and she said "You know, you can't just diet, you have to exercise too or else you'll never lose anything."
Anyway, next month she's supposed to work the same shift as me which means she'll be home 30 mins after I get home from work so I've decided to walk the floors at work, go to the bottom, walk all the way to the other side, take the stairs up, walk all the way across the building, then up the stairs and repeated for all five floors. I'm getting in some activity however I look like I'm just working walking from one area to the other. So I'll do that when she's working the same shift as me. I should pick up a pedometer (hopefully it wont fall in the toilet like the last one).
I wanted to just dance around my room so I went to download some new fun music and remembered there was a song I wanted to download that I heard on our local jazz station here. Anyway, I downloaded it and everything else by this artist that was available, and I LOVE it. Her name is Zee Avi, and she's fantastic. I'm a singer and I've been told on several occasions I have a bluesy/jazzy voice but I never really get to show it off 'cause i'm usually singing gospel or ballads. I'd really like to try singing jazz in a performance not just in my car. I just love the way it feels.... If that makes any sense...
Today I had smart ones shrimp in maranara. it was BRUTAL. I couldn't even eat it, I had some shrimp and some noodles, gross. Couldn't handle it. I also had the chocolate cake tonight, it was alright. Like I said yesterday, I'm not a huge chocolate fan so... Anyway, I've decided to go to bed now and get up at 6 and do yoga before I shower. Good plan? We'll see how it goes tomorrow morning when I'm trying to roll out of bed.

Gong show
Well this weekend was a bit of a gong show, stayed within my points, only used a couple of my flex points so... I guess it's alright. I still can't help but feel guilty though. I had wendy's but I tried to stay on the healthy side having the chili 'cause of the beans and the fiber, and I had water but I had a burger, but I put all the veg on it (even tomatoes and I HATE tomatoes). So... I don't know, guilt ridden, but whatever, they say to leave room for splurges, and I did so let's move past this shall we?
Well my best friend came over today. She's in this super intensive program where she had to move away for a year and I rarely get to see her. It's REALLY hard 'cause we lived together before she left so, to go from seeing her every single day for hours and hours to like once a month, if that... it's difficult. The program is AMAZING and is doing a lot of good in her life so I never tell her how hard it is for me to have her gone. I don't want her to be upset that I'm upset while she's away doing this amazing thing. Anyway, she was late 'cause of a HUGE traffic jam and then we just vegged in my room and chatted for two hours which felt like 10 minutes. It's so sad to see her go but....... only 5 more months! Then she's back!
Oh, today I had the thai noodle smart ones. I was running late and asked my mom to throw some fruit and a smartones and a yogurt into my lunch bag for me. All 'cause my clothes weren't dry!!! I saw the smart ones go into my lunch bag and was expecting tomato sauce. When I pulled it out I was like, ahhhh thai!! Now, thai and I are okay, but I have to REALLY want thai for me to enjoy it so... as it was in the microwave for 4.5 mins I was trying to talk myself into actually eating it. Finally I decided, you have nothing else, and you don't want to buy anything for lunch from the cafe. Mostly 'cause I can't afford it because I need to buy groceries for my family. Anyway, so I sat down, and let's be honest, it looked DISGUSTING. I sat there for a long time just stirring it around and around, then finally I got up the courage to try it. It was actually pretty good. I kept eating it and actually enjoyed most of it. I'd eat it again, so I went to the superstore after work to pick up, Skinny sticks (P.S. Maui Wowie BBQ sticks are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!) and I picked up a few more smart ones I didn't have, like a pizza one, another like asian inspired one and one that I enjoyed before, the ziti one, and another thai one. :)
Tonight for dinner I had a lean cuisine spaghetti carbonara, they were on sale when I was picking up OJ for my pops so I just grabbed it and Lasagna. It's convenient because they actually have the WW points on the side I figured out after pulling it out of the freezer. The carbonara (6 points) was delish!
I also tried the Smart ones strawberry short cake this past weekend, it was also really good, however the cooking time is off and the middle stays frozen and I didn't like that 'cause the texture was off. I'll have to fiddle with my microwave to get it to the right consistency. As for desserts I still have chocolate cake to try. I'm not a HUGE chocolate fan however when I have the odd craving for chocolate, I would take your arm off to get the chocolate out of your hand so... ha ha ha! Sad I know, however humorous 'cause it doesn't happen to often. The worst one was I had a brutal craving for chocolate so I searched the ENTIRE house for chocolate and couldn't find anything and started crying and lying on the floor ha ha, then it passed and I was fine. How pathetic is that? :) That was years and years ago though.
I'm pretty pooped so I think I'll head to bed. I really need to pick up my working out. I need pointers to jump start my willingness to work out. Any suggestions? Anyone?

Catch 22
So I'm REALLY having a hard time eating all my points! I feel like I'm eating all day. SERIOUSLY! Like, just to prove it I'll list what I ate today and I'm STILL 9 points short for my minimum!!!
Breakfast:
banana
yogurt
pear
Lunch:
ravioli with spinach in tomato sauce (smart ones)
bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper
a "small" salad with italian dressing (which is two and a bit servings of veg)
Work Snacks:
Weight watchers cookie
snack size bag of 94% less fat popcorn
After work:
WW bagel with cream cheese
Can of sprite
Dinner:
plain baked potato
chicken cordon bleu (WW recipe, and UNBELIEVABLE)
Broccoli
Carrots
Most of the things I'm eating I'm rounding UP points too so... what the heck am I doing wrong? That's one thing I find would be helpful on the website a listing of exactly how many things you're supposed to eat. 'cause I'm eating everything on my "checklist" but the points don't add up.
On top of all this I have my 1000 cups of water, my vitamin, my flax seed oil... like all day I'm sitting in my cubicle and I have something on the go. I ate less before I was on this plan. However I ate a lot of crap before I was on it and didn't work out for a couple months and before then it was only like once maybe twice a week. Anyway, who knows if I'll loose weight this week, I'm eating so much food... however everything I'm eating is fruit and veg and before it would have been mostly carbs and protein so... I guess we'll see on saturday. :)
I really need to pick up on my working out though, that's tricky 'cause there doesn't seem like enough time for me to do it. I did one really good work out and then I've just been doing like little additional stuff like, taking the stairs every time I go up or down at work (which somedays can be insane) and parking in butthole nowhere in the parkinglot and then doing a jog to get in the building for fear of being late. I'm also parked so far away because at my work they have closed off certain doors so they can put awnings up to protect us from falling snow and stuff. However it's inconvenienced everyone so much because we have to park so far away and freeze our nuts off on the way in. I mean... if we all had nuts. Which I don't. JUST to clarify. ANYyyyyway.... moving on. I SHOULD be doing a work out tonight but I have class on thursdays so I come home, make my dinner, do class while I'm eating then I'm checking my e-mail and blogging and now it's 9:30 and I'm zonked. That's sad. I'm 25 and exhausted by 9:30. I know if I work out I'll be energized but I don't want to be energized to just hop into bed to lie there awake... I also don't want to have to roll out of bed in the a.m. before the sun comes up and the heat turns on to work out. It's really a catch 22.

So today was my first day of cooking a weight watchers friendly recipe. I chose to make one of my favourite dishes ever which is chicken fettuccini. (for only 9 points)
It was DELICIOUS!!!! I was surprised at how good it was. There wasn't enough sauce for my non weight watcher parents though. I had a bowl of it and didn't even finish it all I was so full. The secret ingredient was broth. I know broth works wonders but I would never use it to make a cream sauce. Now, I will. :) Anyway, my parents both really loved it. I was also surprised by that, 'cause they do not want to be effected by my new eating habits. Tomorrow I'm making coconut lime shrimp over brown rice. We'll see how that goes.
Now, this whole cooking thing is fun to me. When I was in high school I had no clue what I wanted to do so I did what most people do, and go to school for something they are good at. Well, I went to cooking school. It sucked, worst experience ever. I'll leave it at that. However I learned a lot of valuable lessons. Mostly on how to gain 40 lbs in 8 months. After my first year I left for several reasons, one major one being that it ruined cooking for me which really sucked. For years after that I didn't cook. I didn't do anything from scratch, everything was from a package or from take out or from a restaurant. Which is also why I gained even more weight. It's really nice to get back in the swing of things. I've printed off a whack of recipes that my family will enjoy too. Like turkey meat loaf and chive potatoes and dill salmon risotto to name a few. I'm pretty excited to make my own cook book out of recipes that I've tried out that I actually like. The first one in the book will be the chicken alfredo I made tonight.
Now, like I said yesterday I was going grocery shopping after work tonight. Good thing I got that GST check because FRICK I spent a lot of money. Normally when I shop for myself the most it's ever been has been $40 something. However, I bought groceries for my whole family to eat meals for the next two nights, and stuff for me for a week and a few extra things for my fractured father. $98 bucks!!! I was shocked as I swiped my debit card through. However, I got a lot of WW friendly stuff so that's a plus. I got weight watchers cookies (bless their souls), ingredients for tonights meal, and for the chicken cordon bleu for tomorrow nights WW friendly meal, fruit and veg, and I bought 8 Smart Ones meals. They were two for $5. They have some pretty delicious sounding meals... shrimp and penne in spicy sauce, beans and rice, vegetarian lasagna... I'm looking forward to trying them all. OH and angel food cake (YUM!!!) ALSO weight watchers friendly. WHOOT!
And now, I'm exhausted, so I will relax, watch a movie, and sleep.
Exes and Oh's loved ones! :)

Day One, Day One.....
So today was day one.
I realized very quickly I had no "Weight Watchers friendly" food in the place as I haven't gone grocery shopping in a while. My father recently had an accident and fractured his ankle and my mother had her knees replaced so I've been scrambling like a chicken with it's head cut off to take care of all of us. Great time to start this thing huh? Ha ha! Anyway, I did well throughout the day and kept thinking over and over again how the heck am I going to eat this many points in one day? So I tried to plan accordingly and I think I did pretty well. Just dinner and a snack left and I still have half of my points allotted for the day.
I'm not the kind of person who describes what they ate all day so I don't plan on starting now. Let's just say, Yoplait creamy peach yogurt is divine, and 3 points. :)
After work I went and picked up a few things just to get me through the week so that I could do a big shop on the weekend. "Smart Ones" is Weight watchers food brand and they have a bunch of meals, breads, etc. Anyway, when I went to the walmart supercenter after work (which is right beside my work) I decided to just grab everything they had that was weight watchers. They unfortunately didn't have much selection and I ended up walking out with two breakfasts, two dinners and a dessert to my surprise. I also picked up some crispy minis (dill pickle and ranch tortillas) some popcorn, and some breakfast bars. I'll give a yay or nay on the foods as I eat them. I'm planning on having the Chicken Parmesan for dinner tonight 'cause my parents are having spaghetti.
Now, being that we are in a recession, I'm sure everyone is trying to save money. Even a few dollars and cents wherever they can. So, in my what I thought at the time genius, I decided to go to the walmart supercentre to pick up the ol' groceries because I thought it would be cheaper. So I walk out of there feeling I got good deals and then when I unpacked the groceries I sat down to look at the flyers (which is a guilty pleasure of mine, along with Pauly Shore) ANYway, and I noticed every last thing I picked up from Walmart was on sale at Sobey's. INCLUDING some other things I would have picked up such as Asian pears and Weight Watchers bread products. Boy was I ticked. Then I was kicking myself all the way upstairs to find my Government of Canada GST credit check lying on my desk. WHOOT an extra $71.31! I'll go out tomorrow and pick up a few more things at Sobey's so I have stuff in the house, I mean, a deals a deal. And THIS was a deal.
Anyway, I came home from work and grocery shopping around 5:30. I gave myself 30 mins to check my e-mail, change and start working out. Now, I have a variety of different things I do yoga, kickboxing, weight training, walking etc. However, I wanted to start off slow since I hadn't worked out since before the holidays. I didn't want to walk as it is freezing rain out there and slippery like a mother trucker and I don't have a death wish so I thought it would be a fantastical idea to stay inside. So I did. I went down into the basement where our "gym" is and I popped in what I thought was a kick boxing tape. No no, it was a Richard Simmons tape that belonged to my mother that I used to do as a joke that year I lost 100 lbs to make myself laugh. I did it, to give myself a good send off into the work out world again and man, I was laughing and sweating. It didn't really help that it was BOILING in the basement. I guess that's what you get when you work out beside the furnace. Anyway, it was fun. I know, I know, a lot of people would probably make fun of me for even doing it. Oh well, try it, I know it's cliche, but it's frickin' fun.

Enjoy! ;)

The Beginning
I know at some point in my life I was thin.
I've seen pictures. So it must be true, right?
I don't really remember being thin, what it feels like... I know what I looked like from pictures I have of me. I'm wearing a pink dress with white tights and curly hair. I also happen to be about 5. I actually don't even know if this picture exists, however I can see it so vividly in my mind. I think the reason why I have that image of me burned on my brain is because that's what I feel, what I've been TOLD I should look like by my mother, by society, by guys... I'm so far from it now but that's what I'm striving for, an imaginary picture of myself. I know there is a video of this "perfect me" dancing around to Michael Jackson with my two cousins who are both wearing vests and hulk hogan sun glasses. So this video is clearly from the 80's. However, it's not the 80's anymore (thank goodness). It's 2010.
New Years... a time of resolutions which usually get broken within the month, week or day for some people. Which is why I decided to start my journey today. On January 10th, 2010. It looks good 01-10-10.
For as long as I can remember I have "struggled with weight." At least that's what you're supposed to say. I've never really "struggled" per sey. I actually loose weight pretty easily, however with that, I also gain REALLY easily. I've had a hormone problem since I was 8 and the weight comes and goes like you wouldn't believe.
Six years ago, and I can't believe it was that long ago, just saying it makes me feel old, even though I'm only 25... SIX, years ago, I had reached an all time high in my weight, which I hope to one day be able to say out loud. I don't want to shout it off roof tops or anything, I just want to be able to admit it. That's the first step right? Well those six years ago I had stomach surgery. I had gastric bypass and long story short, they put something around your stomach to make it smaller so you can't eat as much. It's basically forcing you to be annorexic. Well for that first whole year I could go days without eating.
I remember being in the car with my friend Robynn and she said "Can we go eat, I haven't eaten since 5 this morning" this was about 8 at night. I said "I'm not really hungry but we can definitely go out." That's when I realized I hadn't eaten since wednesday and it was saturday night. That first year, I lost 103.7 lbs. I looked better, not great, but better but still not where I wanted to be. 5 years passed after that and I stopped keeping track of how much weight I was losing. That's when I realized I had started gaining again. I bought a scale and realized I had gained almost all of it back over the 5 years post that first year. I was depressed. I still am. I rarely leave my house now, except for work, and social things where I'm comfortable (which is a rarity). My weight has really effected my social life for sure, and that's when I realized I'm torturing myself. I'm a social butterfly and my weight is holding me back, being embarassed to see people I used to see all the time who loved me. I didn't/don't want them to see me like this, back to what I was pre-surgery. Which is why I made the conscious decision to change. And it starts today.
Since Christmas just passed and money was tight (buying all those gifts is tricky business) I decided I would wait until after the holidays to start my new lifestyle. Which also helped me pack on a few more pounds that I'll need to burn off. I've decided to start weight watchers, I've done it before and I was successful (I lost 60 lbs). So I've set aside money on the credit card to pay for my 3 month online subscription and I will sign up for that as soon as I post this blog.
I don't plan on anyone following this, this is for me. To keep me on track, to keep me coming back and following through. So here goes, the first step in the long journey.
